Crime in this country (South Africa) is out of control. We are so affected by, and hear about it even more that we've become numb. I'm amazed at our ability to adapt and recover, but when will it end?

We surprised my mom for her birthday this morning. She was genuinely touched by the gesture and couldn't stop crying. I don't think she knows how much she means to us. I could spend my entire life trying to make up for all she's given us, and it still wouldn't be enough.
